Global warming is a huge challenge for the world. The emission of greenhouse gasses, such as CO2 and methane, needs to be reduced significantly in order to put a hold on climate change and the negative effects deriving from that. In the Paris Global Climate agreement, 200 supporting countries, committed to limit global warming to well below 2, preferably to 1.5 degrees Celsius. At Alcomex, we see this as an important topic on which we need to take our responsibilities together with all our stakeholders. The challenges of the energy transition offer opportunities to put Alcomex in a leading exemplary role for the springs industry.
We have taken an evolutionary step-by-step approach by integrating carbon reduction as a main part of the Alcomex vision and mission. Our goals are in line with those of the Paris Climate Agreement. We aim to be CO-2 neutral in line with the Paris Climate agreeemtn through reducing our CO-2 footprint in all our operations 5% annually. Parallel we will be compensating our remaining CO-2 footprint by planting trees.
Although our approach is evolutionary, we have already started in 2019 by mapping the Alcomex CO-2 footprint for all our factories. These factories are Alcomex Springs-Pol in Poland, Alcomex India, Alcomex Spring-Works in the Czech Replublic and in the Netherlands, HZ Solutions, VIOD and Alcomex Verenfabriek. In every factory we have installed a special Smart tracker tool which maps our CO-2 emissions annually. All the above stated factories are following the CO-2 reduction plans we made and are taking concrete actions to reduce the CO-2 emissions.

The measuring of Alcomex CO-2 emissions for 2020 has been done with the Smarttracker CO-2 measurement methodology of the Climate Neutral Group. They have issued a ‘Progress Report’ for 2020, after which we have offset the 2020 CO-2 emissions by planting 6.800 trees in Spain and Texas.
We did this in partnership with the Land Life Company (landlifecompany.com), an organization with a mission to restore two billion hectares of degraded land in the world by planting trees. This will turn CO-2 into forests, retracting carbon from the atmosphere.
