Constant force springs

Constant force springs

Constant force extension springs are produced from flat strip material and coiled using proprietary processes to a definite curvature in order to provide the required force output.

Constant force extension springs can offer extremely long linear deflections, and unique force characteristics with either constant rate, positive rate, or negative rate over the working deflection. There is practically no limit to the rate of extension or acceleration. Springs can be attached and partially or fully extended in a variety of ways.

Their long rotational capacity, continuous torque, and Applications for constant force extension springs include window balancing, counter scales, electric motor brush, and point-of-purchase displays.

Maximum thickness 0.81mm, maximum width 51mm.

Technical information about constant force springs

Constant force extension springs consist of a tightly wound coil of strip material, which has been given a bending radius along the entire length of the strip. The spring is typically mounted so that the coil body is fixed but free to rotate (either on a shaft or in a slot) and the outer end of the coil is deflected. Alternatively the outer end of the coil can be fixed, while the coil body is deflected.

Constant force extension springs can be multiply mounted in parallel assemblies to increase force output to the sum of the spring forces. Constant force extension springs can also in some cases be laminated, in multiple layers, to increase force output to the sum of the spring forces. Assemblies can also be designed to use the spring in compression.

Custom made constant force springs

In addition to our stock of springs, Alcomex also produces customer-specific, custom made constant force springs. This could mean different materials, dimensions and finishing.
